Department Samhita Siddhant & Sanskrit

Introduction

Department of Samhita Siddhant & Sanskrit is one of the preclinical departments of Ayurveda and popularly known as department of basic Principles. Department is engaged in conveying basic principles of Ayurveda as well as statistics. This department empowers the science of Ayurved in a structural manner which shall enable the students in understanding the Ayurvedic classical Samhitas in the best manner.

The sacred scriptures of Ayurveda written by our great sages including Sushruta, Charaka, Vagbhata exist in Sanskrit, the language of Gods. The medical terminology and concepts of Ayurveda are deeply embedded in Sanskrit. Sanskrit verses mentioned in ancient Ayurveda scriptures convey deeper knowledge of concepts, principles and practices. To receive the deepest knowledge and wisdom held in the Sanskrit shlokas and sutras, an Ayurveda student must have knowledge of this divine language. Padarth Vigyan is key course to understand fundamental principles of Ayurveda. It is science which really helps students to understand basic principles of Ayurveda in much deeper & broader way. History of Ayurveda enables the students to understand the development in Ayurveda during pre-vedic, vedic, medieval period and recent developments. Glorious history of Ayurved with progressive development in various branches of Ayurveda are well explained in this subject.

Popular Samhitas like Charak, Ashtanga Hriday are also studied and taught in this department. Charak Samhita is a very famous book written in Sanskrit language. In charak samhita food, hygiene, prevention from disease, medical education & detailed explanation about patients is explained. Charak Samhita is famous for “medicine” & is the most referred text by students, physicians & researchers. It also seriously deals with the concept of healthy aging & longevity as described in swasth chatushka & Rasayan Chapters. The Ashtang Hridayam, the “Heart or essence of all the 8 branches of Ayurveda” is one of the primary ancient root texts of Ayurveda. Today the Ashtanga Hridayam continues to same as a root source for Ayurvedic philosophy & protocol providing clean guidelines in all aspects of health.
